First time in our system of Education!
The UG Secondary School holds a National Conference for Students
 
“School and Society”
 
(Role, place and goal of secondary education for the teenagers)
 
       
 
Conference aims at making the students more interactive in the educational process, establish new relations between schools and society in whole, involve parents in schools’ life. Also, we want to make clear students’ view of nowadays problems, present their opinions, innovating ideas, etc. 
 
Requirements: 
Intermediate level students, Board of Trustees and parents are allowed to participate in the competition. Thesis must be of no less then 5 pages, and not more than 10. Work may be presented both in print and in PowerPoint.
 
 
 
Rules for presenting the documentation:
 
From October 24 till November 10 participants have to send electronic version of one-page thesis on the given E-mail.
Participants must fill preliminary application list and send it by e-mail.
Passing the first stage, participants have to pay the registration fee (15 GEL) till January 20.
 
 
Requirements:
 Participants must shape their views about the school life; present their opinions, innovations concerning development and strengthening the educational system.   
 
Themes:
(Only one must be chosen out of the following):
 
What is the goal and how the student understands it:
 
  1. Who we are (where we place ourselves in the educational process
  2. Where we come from (historical review of secondary school education in Georgia)
  3. Where we are (reality for the time being) and where we go (school education goals and presumable results)
 
 
Sections:
  • Self-government, students’ role and destination in the school life
  • School publishing activities (school newspapers, home-made journals, internet-editions)
  • School scientific studios (students’ attitude towards science, innovative ideas, suggestions for improvement/popularizing the given field)
  • School art activities (theater, puppet theater), how important it is for the school life; student’s attitude towards these activities.
  • Sport in school
  • Oppression and Democracy in schools
  • History of education – history of schools in Georgia (participants must present their view of developing schools, their historical  implications – from the first public school till modern ones)
  • Planning the time schedule of the educational process (presenting personal views on the subject)
  • Relations between student and teacher (how these relations may become deeper,  better and more productive; Teachers from the point of view of a student)
  • Ethics at school (parents and school, relations between parents and teachers, presented from the students’ point of view) subculture – students’, parents, and teachers’ attitude towards the phenomenon
  • Increasing the students’ motivation (the ways of improving the quality of teaching)
  • The reformed educational process and how much it backs up the student’s individualism.
 
Agenda:
  1. Deadline for presenting the thesis – November 10.
  2. Deadline for presenting the conference themes – December 11
  3. The names of participants that passed the first stage will be published on school web-site, from January 20.
  4. Conference will be held on January 30, 11 a.m.
 Appraising the works presented, the following criteria are to be taken into consideration:

Content, incite and volume of the work
Presenter should enlarge upon the theme; the work must not exceed 10 pages and contain bulky information about the subject given.

Organizing the work, logically understanding it and presenting the essence of the problem    
Presenter should stay consistent, make paragraphs and stay within the given theme.

Argumentation and quotations
Presenter must give persuasive arguments and offer appropriate examples; also, use footnotes accordingly.

Factual precision, general education and erudition
Work should not contain factual mistakes, and must reflect presenter’s general education and erudition.

Independent thought, originality
The work also should reflect independent thoughts, views and evaluations of the Presenter.

Lexicality and the sense of style
Presenter should be skilled in presenting the ideas eloquently and show the stylistic excellence.

Terms of the competition:
  • All the participants will be awarded with certificate of honor.
  • First three chosen will be awarded with special prizes.
Documentation must be delivered to the UG secondary school administration.
